What’s Your Attitude To Christmas?

Don’t you find it’s so easy to get caught up in all the Christmas preparations and get stressed out?

Dashing around, rushing to the supermarket to get all the things you need, roaming around the shops panicking and ending up buying presents at random, getting increasingly more stressed!

So my last blog before Christmas is deliberately short because I suspect you may be very busy! It was inspired by a conversation I had with a CEO about when you get to a certain age you realise you have a finite number of Christmas’ left on this earth. And this got me thinking: “What would it be like if you treated this Christmas as if it was your last?” How does this new perspective make you feel? For me it throws a different light on the festivities and helps you focus on what is important and what is not.

If this really was your last Christmas:

  • What would you do differently?
  • What would you prioritise?
  • What would you let go of?

My example of ‘do differently’ this year was to leave the kids decorating the Christmas tree on their own and they have done a great job. I have ‘prioritised’ making things easy by delegating key jobs to family members so that I don’t have to do everything, and I have ‘let go’ of buying all the presents and also taken short cuts with the Christmas Day meal rather than making it all from scratch.

So this year, instead of rushing around like a mad thing, I plan to enjoy all the aspects of Christmas and really celebrate the joyous things about this time of year.

If you do the same, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy it a lot more than usual.

Wishing you all the best that the season has to offer and to a very happy 2014.
